Is drone photography worth it for a Charleston listing?
By Barry Cunningham, Charleston Media Group · Updated
Drone photography is worth adding when the location or the lot is part of what the buyer pays for: waterfront and marsh-front homes, acreage, land, homes near the beach and new communities. For a typical interior-focused condo it adds less. At $150 with Charleston Media Group, it is usually the cheapest upgrade a waterfront listing can get.
Listings where drone pays off
Marsh and deep-water homes, where the view and the dock are the product. Homes on large lots or acreage, where buyers want to see boundaries and tree cover. Anything near the beach or downtown, where distance is a selling point. New communities, where amenities and layout sell the home.
When to skip it
Condos and townhomes in dense areas, homes under heavy tree canopy, and listings where nothing outside the walls helps the story.
Is it legal to fly anywhere?
Commercial drone pilots must hold an FAA Part 107 certificate. Some Charleston-area addresses sit in controlled airspace near the airport and need FAA authorization first. Barry Cunningham is Part 107 certified and checks every address before the shoot.
